It has been 4.5 months ever since we moved to Zanzibar, and way too long ever since my last blog-post. The past year has been B-U-S-Y! We packed up our life in Costa Rica in 8 bags and said goodbye to the tropical paradise and our beautiful dog Squiggles (who is living her best life in Costa Rica by the way) — but hopefully not forever, stopped in D.C., where I took my Family Practice boards (and passed, heeeey!), flew to New Hampshire, where we scattered the ashes of one of the most beautiful souls we had the pleasure of knowing, Hal Levy, and then moved all the way to the motherland.
In Zanzibar, we have been busy ever since we touched down on August 4th. Sam started teaching again 2 days after our arrival, then were busy finding a suitable childcare situation for both kids, which was quite an adventure. Thankfully that is now sorted; Abe attends a fun daycare several times a week and Soraya has an amazing nanny. Once the childcare situation was sorted (and even before), I started working on a major (and totally crazy) project that I will write about when the time is right.
Right as things started falling into place in Zanzibar, it was time to hop on multiple flights again — first to Dar es Salaam, then to Amsterdam and Alkmaar in Holland for 2 days, and then to Washington, D.C and Indiana for the holidays because of course, our life would not be complete without total chaos (ha ha).
2018 has been a crazy busy and adventurous year, but we hope to stay put in 2019 and mostly explore Africa, get more organized, settle into our new home, get better at sharing our journey with you all, and enjoy every minute of being on the spice island. Although generally overrated, stability has never sounded so good. Here’s to a kinder and healthier New Year filled with love and happiness. Happy New Year!
